Embassy of Ireland-Enterprise Ireland Trade and Investment Dialogue

Indonesia is increasingly considered the hidden jewel of Asia with a vast population of 242 million and with Economic Growth projected to  the region of 6% in 2009. It hosts a dynamic market of surging importance and increasing opportunity in the global economy – a leader within South East Asia – offering a reliable and rewarding partnership in the key areas of trade and investment.

It is against this impressive background that Embassy of Ireland together with Enterprise Ireland, the Government Agency responsible for growing the exports of Irish companies, are hosting a distinguished gathering of Government, Business and Academic interest from both Indonesia and Ireland at a Trade Reception and Business Dialogue at the Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta on the evening of December 2nd, 2009.

Speaking in advance of the event Irish Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Richard O’Brien, said that he was delighted to welcome one-hundred guests spanning the Political and Administrative as well as Commercial and Academic communities and looked forward to an informative and ambitious series of presentations from experts and entrepreneurs which will ensure that the business agenda between out two nations will be developed and deepened across a range of very specific and vitally important sectors.

Ireland already has a number of intensively important business connections across Indonesia in areas such as Food & Beverages, International Services, Financial Services, Pharmaceutical, Telecommunications, Energy, Education, Software, Aviation Services and Engineering. As a small open economy at the heart of Europe with progressive economic and tax policies it is compelling location for Indonesia investors considering the EU Marketplace.

Irish controlled companies are already significant employers in their respective field of excellence and we are particularly glad to welcome the recent investment by the Global Leader in food ingredients Kerry Group Plc in Indonesia.

According to Mr. Patrick O’Riordan Director of Enterprise Ireland with responsibility for Indonesia, “This is a major opportunity for over twenty Irish companies participating at this key event and demonstrates the latent appetite for doing business in Indonesia that exists. Enterprise Ireland client companies here in Jakarta are world class in their respective fields. As well as growing Irish exports to Indonesia with local partners there is also the opportunity for knowledge transfer as Indonesia moves rapidly building on and cementing key business relationships with the Indonesian Business Community. We look forward to building on these key relationships to the benefit of Indonesian and Irish companies as the Indonesian economy continues to grow rapidly.”
